This photo of the scuba diver passing in front of the entrance to this magnificent cave in Tonga has always enthralled me. The lit flashlight pointing in my direction is an additional bonus that gives this image a wonderful focal point. This cave was the largest I have ever encountered while diving and seemed to go on forever as it dropped off into the depths. The further I explored back into the cave, the more immense it became. The entrance had to be close to 80 feet in diameter, and began at a depth of around 60 feet. This cave can only be entered or explored during periods of slack tides. When the tide changes, the currents suck into this cave well over 10 miles per hour and a diver could disappear for good if not careful and aware of what is happening. I love how the diver is centered in the image, surrounded by deep blue water, and totally framed in total blackness by the most awesome cave entrance I have ever seen. This photo has an awe inspiring feeling to it when I look at it on our wall.
